Nicole is not only one of our stunning models - she is an incredibly accomplished nurse and future Certified Nurse Midwife. Our "On Call" shirt was inspired by her work staying on call for days on end, catching babies. Passionate about maternal health equity, Nicole has dedicated her career as a nurse and future CNM to bringing quality care to all pregnant people. Learn more about Nicole below!
Nicole currently works as practicing faculty at the UIC College of Nursing. She is just a few weeks away from graduating with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) as a future Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM).
What really drew Nicole to Midwifery was the healthcare crisis that is maternity care in the United States. Despite spending the most money on maternal healthcare in the world, we have almost the worst outcomes. The maternal mortality rate in America has more than doubled in the past 20 years, while worldwide it has decreased 44%. We also have the widest disparities where black women are 3-4x more likely to die in pregnancy-related deaths than their white counterparts.
Nicole wanted to become a Midwife to change this. Midwives have also been shown to increase access to quality healthcare, reduce the use of unnecessary medical procedures and reduce healthcare costs. Midwives are being called upon to support natural, physiologic birth and provide holistic care to pregnant people.
After working as a nurse, Nicole really learned the importance of making time to decompress and practice self-care. Playing and walking with her German Shepherd, Finn is one of her favorite ways to do that. She also loves weightlifting, watching Netflix and trying new restaurants in Chicago!
